Learner-Centred
Learners are at the centre of OER design and their prior knowledge and experience are respected as valuable additions to the learning environment.
The Equity Rubric for OER Evaluation gives a resource a high rating for Interests if it “meaningfully and authentically connects to learner interests and provides ways for learners to direct their own learning.”
The Rubric suggests looking for “learner choice.”

This book leans into the interests of students by using relatable examples to explain new concepts. For example, fractions are demonstrated using pizza slices as a visual aid.
The book also uses language that has a more familiar tone, rather than a formal scholarly tone which would be less accessible to students.
Human Biology: Human Anatomy and Physiology
Christine Miller
This book guides learners through the essential concepts while offering pauses for reflection and evaluation of knowledge as well as the choice to explore topics of interest in further detail via ancillary materials.
